2025 HAPPY SUMMER SOLSTICE!

What is the Summer Solstice?

The Summer Solstice is an Astronomical event for everyone but for those in the northern hemisphere it is an agricultural event as well.

The summer solstice is a solar event that makes up one of four solar events that creates the four seasons as we know them: summer solstice (June), Autumnal Equinox (Sept), Winter Solstice (Dec) and, Spring Equinox (March).

The summer solstice marks the first day of summer, the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, shortest in the southern hemisphere. It is on the summer solstice the sun reaches the highest northern position in the sky, directly above the tropic of cancer. After this, each day grows shorter until the winter solstice.

Why do we celebrate the Summer Solstice?

In the Northern Hemisphere the Summer Solstice is an agricultural event. At time the daylight is the longest and because of this the crops and livestock become big and tall. Judging by this, farmers could judge the size of their harvest. This is why we associate the summer solstice with prosperity and agriculture. This is also why we celebrate it.

From a classical feng shui perspective, the Summer Solstice is also important. It is a marker of our journey around the sun and the passage of time. In time all things change: the alignment of the heavens, the earthly elements, as well as ourselves. In San Yuan or Flying Star feng shui emphasizes the change of heavenly alignments over time. In San He or Three Harmonies feng shui time is important. However, San He emphasizes land and water formations.
